The American Bar Association Center for Global Programs (ABA CGP) seeks to establish a roster of safeguarding experts to support the implementation of its Safeguarding Policy. These experts will assist ABA CGP offices worldwide in minimizing and mitigating safeguarding risks, as well as conducting investigations into cases of misconduct.

The ideal candidate can be based anywhere globally and should possess expert knowledge in safeguarding people and communities. Candidates should also have experience working with diverse stakeholders, including governments, civil society organizations, and community leaders.

Description of Consultancy  

The purpose of this call is to establish a roster of qualified consultants to provide technical expertise on safeguarding for ABA CGP, as needed.

The ideal candidate should have expert knowledge of safeguarding principles, practices, and investigative processes. This expertise should be informed by current research and international trends in the field.

The Expert Consultant will work under the overall technical supervision of the ABA CGP Senior Technical Advisor on Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion, and report directly to a Program Management Unit Lead. Collaboration with the ABA Ethics Office and with the Chief of Party in the relevant country of assignment will also be required.


Desired Experience and Qualifications  

  • University degree in or equivalent experience in international human rights law, international relations, development studies, social work, gender studies, or psychology.  
  • At least five years of relevant experience in Safeguarding.  
  • Experience developing safeguarding policies and/ or implementing those at the field level.  
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including governments, and civil society organizations.  
  • Experience conducting safeguarding investigations.
  • Relevant experience in different geographical areas.  
  • Preferred: Investigator Qualification Training Scheme (IQTS) Certificate Tier 3 or 4.
  • Preferred: Working knowledge in English, French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian.
