SCOPE OF WORK AND DURATION
ABA ROLI is seeking local or international remote pro-bono Legal Specialists to serve as mentors to conduct online quarterly mentorship sessions with environmental reform advocates in Western Balkans countries. Selected mentor(s) will be expected to provide services remotely. The position is expected to include at least 8 three-hour online training sessions spread out over a period of 20 months.

BACKGROUND 
The mission of ABA ROLI is to promote justice, economic opportunity and human dignity through the rule of law. For more than 30 years in over 100 countries, ABA ROLI has worked to strengthen legal institutions, to support legal professionals, to foster respect for human rights, and to advance public understanding of the law and citizen rights. In collaboration with our in-country partners, we design programs that are responsive to local needs and that prioritize sustainable solutions to pressing rule of law challenges.

THE MENTORSHIP PROGRAM 
ABA ROLI’s Legal Specialists will provide quarterly Pro Bono support to local partners by conducting quarterly online mentoring sessions on environmental justice issues or effective advocacy. The purpose of the mentoring sessions is to address the needs of local partner organizations to implement their local initiatives.

DELIVERABLES/EXPECTATIONS
  1. Provide online quarterly mentoring sessions to local organizations and trainers
  2. Provide ongoing guidance and support to mentees via email, phone, etc. 
  3. Transmit their knowledge and experience to mentees in order to help them address any challenges that may arise in the process of implementing their local advocacy initiatives
  4. Provide feedback to the ABA team on the progress and activities of their mentees  

 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience. Significant experience in environmental justice perspective and/or significant experience in legal advocacy highly-desired.
  • University degree in a relevant field, or in the absence of a university degree, a minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience in conducting mentorship and/or training sessions for human rights and legal advocates
  • Prior experience working in a multi-cultural environment. Experience working in Eastern European countries is preferred.
  • Proficiency in the use of Zoom and other secure online meeting platforms to lead online training sessions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Interest in and commitment to the rule of law.
